This is a fascinating turn-of-the-century historical romance novel. Mary Hartwell Catherwood's Lazarre explores the popular legend of the "Lost Dauphin"—the myth that Louis XVII (the son of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette) didn't actually die during the French Revolution but was smuggled to America to live under the name Eleazer Williams.

The Bowen-Merrill Company (based out of Indianapolis) published the true first edition in 1901, featuring beautiful illustrations by André Castaigne.
